Purse Time

I have been sewing so much for Emily and her move that I've had little time to work on ideas for new products. I had some time to go through my stash and found these three pieces that I liked together, so they laid on the table for about a week while I "stewed" on my idea.

I have a pretty standard purse pattern I use with my metal handles, but I wanted to add a gusset to give more room in the bottom of the purse and allow it to stand when you set it down. I cut the brown checked piece to fit along the bottom of the purse and partly up the sides and tapered it to fit into the sides of the purse. I stitched it together so a row of the "fluff" would stand out in the middle.

I love the metal handles and can use them over and over (for myself) by making new shells for the handles. It's fun to reinvent the purse each time I re-use my handles.

I used the solid brown inside and made pockets for extra storage.

I'm very please with the overall finished look of the purse. I think the next one I make I'll sew trim or something special to dress up the over all look. I have 4 more cut out using some of the same fabric combinations...but in different styles. Hopefully I'll have more time this week for sewing for my pleasure.
