This give-away will resemble an enormous garage sale, but there’s a catch: Everything is FREE!

  God has called us as Missionaries to our own community. We get the privilege of reaching out and meeting needs in Jesus name, for His glory, to show the world that there is a God in heaven who is good, who cares for the hurting, the down trodden, the poor and those who struggle to make ends meet.

 

Jesus in Luke 12:33 says, “Sell your possessions and give to the poor.”

 

First Baptist Church McKinney will be hosting this Garage Giveaway.  Donations will be accepted at Old Settlers Recreation Center, 1201 E. Louisiana St, McKinney TX. 75069

Friday, April 1, South Gym & Sports Pavilion -10am - 9pm

                        North Gym - 6-9pm

Saturday, April 2, 7am - 6pm

  Volunteer at the Giveaway April 3 - 6am-3pm

  We need 1,000’s of donated items. It’s NOT about the STUFF, it’s about the HEARTS of those we get to touch through this exciting ministry. We get to provide “Blessings From One Person to Another.”

 

Along with the huge Garage Give-away, we’ll be providing free eyecare/glasses and other health screenings, children’s crafts and activities, personal care services and food to all who come.

 

That means we’ll have HUNDREDS of VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES beginning Friday, April 1 to the event day Sunday April 3, for you to be involved. Although online registration is closed, you can still show up to volunteer on Sunday, April 3 at 6:00 am.

  Everyone can donate items to the Garage Giveaway! Downsize, thin out, clean out, give away any of the following GENTLY used items:

•   household items
•   gently used clothing for any age
•  small appliances in working condition
•  toys
•  books
•  usable computers and electronics
•  kitchen ware
•  small furniture
•  usable linens

Small Business Saturday

TODAY is the first-ever Small Business Saturday!

Today is meant to be the "Black Friday" for small retailers and is intended to draw shoppers to the many small shops in our downtown area and in the small strip malls throughout McKinney.

Today is a day for us all to come together in support of the many small businesses we love here in McKinney.  The shops and restaurants that employ our neighbors and reinvest our money in our hometown. The businesses that are the heartbeat of our community and local economy...today is a day to celebrate them! 
So...head to downtown McKinney today! You can enjoy Dickens of a Christmas, do some Christmas shopping, eat at one of the great restaurants downtown and see Follow the Star live nativity.  Show times for the live nativity today are 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.   Best of all, the shops are open until 8:00 pm tonight!

Dickens of a Christmas & Follow the Star

This weekend is the Big Dickens weekend in McKinney.  I will let Beth, from On the Square, keep you up on all the happening in downtown McKinney.  She has a great blog and stays on top of all the happening in downtown McKinney.  If you are EVER wondering what to do on any given weekend (in downtown McKinney) she is the "go to" person! 

Me...I want to highlight one aspect of Dickens...Follow the Star - A Light in the City.

Follow the Star is more than a nativity

You can enjoy a one-of-a-kind Christmas experience at Follow the Star – A Light in the City, a live nativity production hosted by Christ Fellowship (formerly McKinney Fellowship Bible Church). This production is for the entire family, and was re-created this year to be a memorable part of McKinney's Dicken's of a Christmas event in downtown McKinney.
Live animals and more than 80 people dressed in period clothing will share the greatest Christmas story ever told. Drama, lights, sets and an interactive Bethlehem Marketplace will transport you to the world as it was 2,000 years ago.
Located at the corner of Louisiana and Church Streets, downtown McKinney.
     Show times: Friday, Nov. 26, 5:30 and 7:30 pm;
                        Saturday, Nov. 27, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 pm.

Garage Giveaway

I thought I would have some "can numbers" to report on how many cans were collected for the Scare Away Hunger event...some of the churches and grocery stores have reported, but not all.  I'll give you the final number once I know how many total cans were collected!  I'll keep you posted!

However, if you missed sharing in the Scare Away Hunger event there is another opportunity for you to give.  Coming up this weekend in McKinney - Garage Giveaway!  On Saturday, November 13 Christ Fellowship (formerly McKinney Fellowship Bible Church) is putting on a community wide Garage Giveaway & Social Ministry fair at the Christ Fellowship Campus! This give-away will resemble an enormous garage sale, but there’s a catch: Everything is free!


 
Everyone in McKinney can donate items to the Garage Give-away! You know you don't really want to sit outside your garage with your few offerings when you can make a huge difference in your community by bringing them to the Garage Giveaway with 1,000's of other items.

Scare Away Hunger

This Friday night is Scare on the Square in Historic Downtown McKinney.  

Streets in downtown McKinney are closed off for trick-or-treaters to cross the streets safely, going from shop to shop to collect goodies from local business owners. Families can celebrate Halloween in a safe and festive environment in our charming and unique downtown.

Scare on the Square also serves to help the needy in our community.

Once again this year, Main Street is partnering with 3E McKinney and is requesting those attending Scare on the Square bring canned food donations to benefit the Food Pantry.

Date: Friday, Oct. 29

Time: 4 – 6 p.m.

Place: Historic Downtown McKinney

3e McKinney will be collecting 15 oz canned vegetables and 15 oz canned fruit for the Community Food Pantry of McKinney.

Look for our collection site on the corner of Louisiana and Tennessee (on the Courthouse lawn) during the Scare on the Square.

Scare Away Hunger is also happening this same weekend throughout McKinney.

In Collin County (one of the most affluent areas in Texas), more than 8 percent of children (more than 65,000) live in poverty. The poverty line is defined as a family of four living on less than $22,050.

Several local churches, partnering with 3e McKinney, desire that we be a group of people, so impacted by Christ's love, that we become Christ's hands and feet.  We can demonstrate the difference Christ has made in our lives by showing compassion for those in our community who don't have the basic necessity of food.

 In case you can't make a food donation at the Scare on the Square event on Friday, there are three alternate food collection sites available for you on Saturday:

Saturday in McKinney - Part II

I'm going to mostly let you enjoy your own tour...

Miss Luann is happy to welcome you to her store!

She was busy, busy...being a Saturday and all...the store was busy!!

The one room you should not miss is the bathroom...it is worth the visit!

I love all these European mustard jars!

The very best part is the smell...I did not eat lunch there on Saturday, but I'll return and let you know.  The sandwiches are huge ($7.00).  Everything looked wonderful!

You can purchase some fresh items,

and there are so many cheese choices.

Not to mention various other items.

Don't rush to check out while you're there!  It's worth your time to browse slowly!

  Surprise...Donna greeted us as we stepped inside!  She said she helps out there occasionally!  I'm so glad she was manning the store today!

Morning Star is housed in a Hardware store right off the main square in McKinney.

The Hardware store was built in the 1880's and you can still see signs of the prior history of the store.

Each area (tools, hardware, nails, etc) are used for the different merchants.

This great staircase leads to the upper level.

The tread on the stairs are worn across the middle from years of use.

You can get a great view of the whole store from the upper walkway.

The ceiling and the fixtures are all part of the ambiance of this store.

Once again...if you find yourself North of Dallas, head on into McKinney and discover the treasures of my great little city!!!
